Bookbinding Studio
Location: 0C2, C-Block, Bower Ashton
Staff: Ben Goodman (Fridays ONLY) The Bookbinding Studio is the main room in the Publishing Lab. This is where we run most of our workshops and it is where you will find binding equipment and example bindings. It also includes our interactive instructional display, which has QR codes which link to our 'how-to' videos. You can use this studio for cutting, folding, sewing, cover making, and general bookbinding tasks. For foiling, finishing and digital work, please use the adjacent room, 0C3. All students and staff are welcome to use this room when there isn't a workshop taking place. You can drop-in without booking, but if you need technical support then please book time with a technical instructor via the Student Project Coordinators. |
Hardback CoversThe studio has everything you need to make your own hardback book. Use our large A1 Board Cutter to cut your greyboard, and our range of hand tools to cut, fold, glue and sew your book together.

Soft BindingsIf you're looking for a quick, easy and simple way to bind your pages, then you will find everything you need to make a soft binding.
The Studio has all the hand tools you will need, but you will have to buy any consumables, such as PVA glue, paper, thread, etc. |
Section BindingUse the QR codes on the Example Bindings Display, or one of our technicians can show you how to section bind your pages.
Remember that you will have to print your book in sections first. Book a workshop with the Digital Design Studios if you're not sure how to do this. |
