The Riso machine works a bit like a scanner and printer, except you can only print one colour at a time. You can create multi colour artworks by building up layers.
Riso is ideal for printing posters and zines as it can print high volumes very fast.
What type of ink is used?
The Riso machine uses soy or rice-based inks to create vibrant and rich colours. We can also print fluorescent inks!
Here is a list of colours we stock: fluorescent pink, fluorescent orange, yellow, melon, red, violet, blue, green, teal and black.
What kind of artworks can you print?
When you scan in or send your artwork to the Riso machine it turns it into a stencil to print from. A bit like screenprint but much quicker.
You can use hand drawn artwork, the scanner translates hand drawn marks and textures really well. Or you can send digital files like photographs or Adobe Illustrator files.
Things to note
Due to the process each print can have slight variations or misregistration, which is all part of the Riso charm.
Prints take 48 hours to dry. Riso prints never fully dry, prints with heavy ink coverage that are handled alot may be prone to smudging.
